A new 66-home development is being proposed for Niskayuna, off Balltown Road in the northern part of the town, town officials said.

The proposal is to build the homes in an area off Reilly Way and behind the Schwaber Drive development, near Environment One Corp., town planner Kathy Matern said recently.

The proposal came in in late August and Matern gave the town Planning Board its first look at the project earlier this month.

The project is proposed to be built by Amedore Homes, the same developer who built the Schwaber Drive development, Matern said.

The homes are also planned to be similar to those at Schwaber Drive, Matern said.

The land is owned by Wayne Wagner.

The engineer for the project is ABD Engineers. A representative of ABD could not be reached for comment Friday.

Town reviews

The town now must have its own engineer look at the project and review it, as well as look at any possible environmental impacts, Matern said.

“I probably won’t go back to [the Planning Board] until I get some information from the engineering firm reviewing it,” Matern said.

The proposed development would be to the right of Reilly Way. The area to the left, about 30 acres, also owned by Wagner, is zoned for apartments, Matern said.

No formal proposal has been submitted for the area to the left. However, when one does come in, Matern said her goal is to link up that project with the yet-to-be-constructed road Alice Wagner Way.

“My goal is to try to get this parcel hooked up with Iroquois Village, so we have a road from Hillside all the way down,” Matern said.

Alice Wagner Way is to be built along with the Iroquois Village apartments nearing approvals off Hillside Avenue. That project is to include a total of 166 apartments, with its new road off Hillside Avenue near the intersection with Rosa Road.

Any full connection between Hillside and Balltown Road would be some years away, Matern said.

She noted there are also wetlands in that area that would have to be addressed before any connection could be made.
