Loan scam leads to theft at credit union

Using counterfeit driver’s licenses, forged pay stubs and stolen identities, three people have tried

Using counterfeit driver’s licenses, forged pay stubs and stolen identities, three people have tried to scam credit unions into giving them loans, Colonie police said.

A woman succeeded in stealing $15,000 from the Capital Communications Federal Credit Union in Latham on Sept. 17, police said.

Another woman and a man tried to use the same scam at the Capital Communications Federal Credit Union branches in Colonie and Niskayuna on Sept. 19 and Sept. 24, but were not successful.

Colonie police have released images of all three in hopes of identifying them.

Anyone who recognizes them is urged to call the Colonie Police Department at 783-2744.

The suspects could face charges of grand larceny, attempted grand larceny, identity theft and criminal possession of a forged instrument.
