A Schenectady police detective broke up an alleged gang assault this afternoon at the corner of Hulett and State streets.
Detective Lt. Eric Clifford, who was driving in a patrol car,, came upon the attack about 3 p.m., police spokesman Lt. Mark McCracken said. As Clifford stopped, the attackers ran off and remain at large.
The victim, described as similar in age to his attackers, was taken to Ellis Hospital. He suffered a cut to one of his legs and may have lost consciousness, McCracken said.
Police released only a vague description of the attackers, saying they were men in their late teens or early 20s.
