Stillwater police have arrested a 10-year-old and a 9-year-old in connection with a burglary and nearly $9,000 worth of vandalism.

Investigators say the two entered a property in the village and drove a tractor until it became disabled in a field; filled vehicle fuel tanks with water, oil and antifreeze; spray-painted several vehicles; and hit a boat repeatedly with an ax. They also started a fire but it did not spread, police said.

After a weeklong investigation assisted by state police, Sgt. Ray Cordani and Ptl. Jamie Mazuryk arrested the two at their Stillwater-area residences. They were referred to Saratoga County Family Court for charges that are the juvenile equivalent of third-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief. They were released to their parents’ custody.
