City police took a local man into custody on a felony robbery charge after he allegedly handed a Trustco Bank clerk note demanding money and indicating that he had a bomb Wednesday morning.

Aram Silva, 28, was charged with first-degree robbery following the incident at 1700 Union St. around 10:48 a.m. He is being held in city jail pending his arraignment Thursday morning.

Police were initially called to the bank branch after a teller's alarm was activated. Workers at the bank indicated the man claiming to have a bomb had fled through a rear exit in the bank toward Eastern Parkway with an undertermined amount of cash.

Using a description of the man, responding police began checking the area. Silva, who matched the description, was stopped near Central Park and then taken into custody after being positively identified.
