A fourth person has now been charged in a Sept. 26 group assault at State and Hulett streets, authorities said.
Tito F. Garcia, 20, of 835 Emmett St., was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count each of first-degree assault and first-degree gang assault, both high-level felonies.
Garcia and three others are accused of assaulting a 17-year-old victim just before 3 p.m. Sept. 26, one of them using a sharp instrument to cut the victim’ left calf, causing a deep cut, according to papers filed in court.
Charged earlier were Ashylaun J. Coleman, 25, of 900 McClyman St.; Joseph A. Hewitt, 21, of 1076 Willett St.; and Everrod K. Mais, 17, of 358 Georgetta Dix Blvd.
All three face one count each of first-degree gang assault, while Coleman and Hewitt also face one count each of first-degree assault.
The attack was broken up when Detective Lt. Eric Clifford happened to drive by in a patrol car. As he stopped, the attackers ran off, but three of the suspects were soon arrested.
The victim was taken to Ellis Hospital for treatment of the cut, police said.
