Police found steroids, bath salts, hypodermic needles and more than a half-pound of marijuana in a Cobleskill apartment before charging a Long Island man with drug possession on Oct. 18.

Michael C. Leavey, 21, of Baldwin, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, according to a release from the Cobleskill Police Department.

Local police working with the State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team secured a search warrant for Leavey's residence on West Main St. in the village last Friday.

During a mid-afternoon search, police said they found nearly $10,000 in cash stored in a safe with the marijuana. Police confiscated packaging materials, digital scales, some other drug not yet identified that police said appears to be a high quality form of MDMA and a loaded shotgun under a mattress.

Leavey was arraigned and jailed on $10,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.
