A Saratoga Springs man faces an expected sentence of five years in state prison following his second conviction within a year for an assault inside the Saratoga County Jail.
Royal D. Hamilton, 32, of Jefferson St., was convicted in Saratoga County Court on Monday of attempted second-degree assault for an incident at the Saratoga County Jail last July.
District Attorney James A. Murphy III said Hamilton punched another inmate in the head on July 24 following an verbal argument, causing bruising and pain.
According to Murphy, Hamilton also committed a jailhouse assault on Oct. 9, 2012, while he was being held for a parole violation. He was later convicted of that assault at a jury trial and was serving time for that assault when the most recent incident occurred.
Murphy said Hamilton is expected to receive a five-year prison sentence when he is sentenced on Nov. 8 by County Court Judge Jerry J. Scarano.
