Starnes joins Albany Med’s surgery group

ALBANY — Dr. H. Fletcher Starnes Jr., of Saratoga Surgical Specialists, has joined Albany Medical Center’s Department of Surgery.

Starnes has practiced in Saratoga County for 20 years, providing expertise in general, breast, thyroid and gall bladder surgery, as well as treating skin cancers. He also specializes in advanced laparoscopic surgery and focused ultrasound breast and thyroid surgery, as well as needle surgery with ultrasound.

Certified by the American Board of Surgery, Starnes completed fellowship training in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and served his residency in general surgery at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital at Harvard University in Boston.

Starnes is seeing patients at 381 Church St. in Saratoga Springs (previously the Saratoga Surgical Specialists site).

Chamber names interim president

GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland Chamber of Commerce announces that Erika Gauthier, the chamber’s membership and program manager for the past four years, has been named as interim president for approximately six months to allow the chamber board of directors time to complete strategic planning for the direction of the chamber.

Current chamber president Kathy Burbank is stepping down in November after accepting a position with local nonprofit Community Caregivers.

The Guilderland chamber has about 500 members.
