Malta budget cuts taxes slightly

The Town Board this week approved a $9.2 million town budget for 2014 that will slightly cut residen

MALTA — The Town Board this week approved a $9.2 million town budget for 2014 that will slightly cut residents’ property taxes.

The owner of a $250,000 home will pay $241 in town taxes, town Supervisor Paul J. Sausville said, compared with $245 under the current budget.

Residents will pay 1 cent per $1,000 assessed value for an ambulance volunteer service award program, and 82 cents per $1,000 for fire protection. There is also a 14-cent-per-$1,000 tax to pay for library services.

There will be a 1.66 percent costof-living raise for all employees earning less than $60,000 a year, including the supervisor and Town Board members.

Town Board members will be paid $15,244 next year, while the supervisor will earn $31,415.
