Cornell scored twice in the final 1:35 Friday, grabbing a 3-3 tie with Rensselaer Polytechnic Instit

TROY — Cornell scored twice in the final 1:35 Friday, grabbing a 3-3 tie with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in an ECACH game with the Engineers at Houston Field House.

Joakim Ryan’s second goal of the game pulled the Big Red within a goal at 18:25 of the third period. When RPI’s Ryan Haggerty was given a charging minor on the play, Cornell called timeout and pulled goalie Andy Iles.

Dustin Mowrey scored the tying goal with 30 seconds left in the third. Ryan got an assist on the play.

Despite a 5-1 edge in shots in overtime, the Engineers settled for a tie that left them 1-1-2 in league play and 5-2-2 overall. Cornell is now 1-1-1, 3-1-1.

After Ryan gave the Big Red a 1-0 lead at 7:52 of the first, Guy Leboeuf tied it for RPI on a short-handed goal 71 seconds into the second period. Haggerty’s 11th goal of the season made it 2-1 RPI after two periods, and Mike Neal’s goal at 7:59 of the third put RPI up two goals.

RPI hosts Colgate tonight at 7.

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Vlad Gavrik’s hat trick lifted the Throughbreds to a win in their ECAC East opener.

Gavrik scored twice in the Thoroughbreds’ three-goal second period, following teammate Aaron Beck’s goal.

David Limoges also scored for Skidmore, 2-0-0 overall.

HAMILTON — Colgate scored a pair of goals 13 seconds apart in the first half and beat Union in an ECAC women’s game.

Miriam Drubel finished with a goal and two assists, and Taylor Volpe added a goal and assist for the Red Raiders.

Kathryn Tomaselli accounted for Union’s scoring with a goal 1:38 into the third period. Union fell to 1-2-0 in the conference, 4-7-0 overall.

ITHACA — Jillian Saulnier scored a pair of goals as the Big Red improved to 4-0-1 in the ECAC.

Saulnier’s power-play opened the scoring, and Hanna Bunton made it 2-0 Cornell with one second to play in the first.

Madison Marzario’s first goal of the year cut the lead in half, but Saulnier scored her second of the game at 13:02.

RPI fell to 1-2-0 in the ECAC, 2-7-1 overall.
