A Fort Plain man is accused of punching a state trooper Friday.
State police said they received a call to the town of Root to help the St. Johnsville Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps with a combative subject. When a trooper arrived, state police said, he found the ambulance stopped on Route 5, its back door open and the ambulance crew was trying to restrain Jeremy J. Harrington, 40.
As the trooper joined in attempting to restrain Harrington, state police said, Harrington punched the trooper in the right side of the face. State police said Harrington was subsequently subdued with a Taser and restrained on a gurney. The trooper was not injured.
Harrington was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, state police said, and was later charged with third-degree attempted assault and disorderly conduct.
Harrington was arraigned in the Root Town Court and sent to the Montgomery County jail on $1,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
