St. Peter’s Health Partners is looking for more than 800 volunteers to participate in a landmark American Cancer Society cancer prevention study that is the largest ever to be conducted in the United States.
Cancer Prevention Study-3, a long-term, nationwide epidemiology study, will involve more than 300,000 individuals of various racial and ethnic backgrounds.
Men and women between 30 and 65 years of age who have never been diagnosed with cancer, not including basal or squamous cell skin cancer, are eligible to enroll.
Enrollees will be asked to complete follow-up surveys at home every few years for the next 20 to 30 years to help researchers build on evidence from earlier studies and better understand the lifestyle, environmental and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer.
Enrollment sessions will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the Mercy Auditorium, St. Peter’s Hospital, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany; and from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in the Pattison Board Room at Samaritan Hospital, 2215 Burdett Ave., Troy.
Appointment times can be scheduled online at www.cps3AlbanyTroy.org.
Participants will be asked to sign a consent form and complete a brief survey. Each individual’s waist circumference will be recorded and a small blood sample will be drawn. All information will be kept confidential.
