ALBANY — New York's utility regulating agency has removed a barrier to the spread of charging stations for electric vehicles.
The Public Service Commission on Thursday decided that it doesn't have jurisdiction over publicly available electric vehicle charging stations.
The PSC said its decision reduces regulatory barriers, in keeping with Gov. Andrew Cuomo's initiative to encourage further growth in the use of electric vehicles.
Automakers and charging station operators are looking for such regulatory clarification in states across the country.
Cuomo wants to see a statewide network of up to 3,000 charging stations over the next five years.
