Stewart’s unveils new Glenville store

Stewart’s Shops celebrated the official opening of its new store in Glenville on Friday with a ribbo

Stewart’s Shops celebrated the official opening of its new store in Glenville on Friday with a ribbon-cutting, specials and even an ice-cream eating contest.

The store at the corner of Freemans Bridge Road and Maple Avenue features a walk-in beer cave with a larger variety of brands, four new gas islands with 12 pumps total, a made-to-order sub and sandwich station, LED lighting and an outdoor picnic area.

“It also has our newer look,” said Stewart’s spokeswoman Maria D’Amelia, referring to the company’s shift from a traditional cedar roof shingle to a lighter and brighter facade.

Stewart’s announced in March it wanted to demolish its old shop at 50 Freemans Bridge Road and replace it with a new one directly behind that site. The new building would allow for better traffic circulation and expanded parking, Stewart’s said.

To do so, Stewart’s purchased the building directly behind the store at 52 Freemans Bridge Road and demolished it in late July. Construction began immediately on the new shop, which had a soft opening Sept. 25. Demolition began on the old shop the next day. Customers were able to begin pumping gas Nov. 1, D’Amelia said.

The new store is about 3,000 square feet. Overall, the project cost $1.6 million.

To commemorate the grand opening Friday, Stewart’s will donate $1,000 to the Greater Glenville Family YMCA and $1,000 to the Scotia-Glenville Food Pantry and held sales and specials all day, including an ice-cream eating contest later that evening.

Stewart’s is also in the process of sprucing up its shop at 411 Ballston Road in town. That site will get gasoline pumps that it currently lacks.
