Several ski areas will open this weekend following the recent blast of cold weather.
Maple Ski Ridge in Rotterdam will feature night skiing from 5 to 9 p.m. today, with lift tickets costing $10. Maple Ski Ridge will also offer $15 lift tickets throughout the weekend, when it will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Whiteface Mountain will open today, and Gore Mountain is slated to have some trails open Saturday. Gore's opening will be its earliest since 1986, when the mountain hosted skiers Nov. 15.
Whiteface will have five trails open from the summit to the base, including Excelsior, Summit Express, Upper Valley, Lower Valley and the Fox trails. At Gore, the Sunway lift will take skiers and riders to the Jamboree Trail and the resort's terrain park.
Whiteface lift tickets this weekend are $38 for adults, $33 for teens and seniors and $28 for juniors. Lift tickets at Gore are $38, but skiers and riders who bring a non-perishable food item for the Gore Gives program for local food banks will receive a $10 discount.
Jiminy Peak, just across the border in Massachusetts, will also open Saturday. The resort will have eight trails and two lifts open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with lift tickets ranging from $26 for one lift and $45 for both.
