Best-selling author Khaled Hosseini will visit Saratoga Springs as a guest of Saratoga Reads in February, in celebration of the community reading program’s 10th year.
Hosseini’s third novel, “And the Mountains Echoed,” is the 2013-2014 Saratoga Read book. In its first year, Saratoga Reads chose Hosseini’s fist novel, “The Kite Runner.”
An Evening with Khaled Hosseini will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, in the Arthur Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College. The event will include a question-and-answer session and book signing by Hosseini, as well as a discussion moderated by Joe Donahue, host of WAMC-FM’s “The Book Show” and “The Roundtable.”
The event is free but tickets will be needed; Zankel Music Center’s box office will offer tickets beginning in mid-January.
Hosseini’s first two books, “The Kite Runner” and “A Thousand Splendid Suns,” have sold more than 38 million copies worldwide and have been published in more than 70 countries. “The Kite Runner,” which spent more that five years on the New York Times bestseller list, was made into a major motion picture.
Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, Hosseini came to the United States as a teen and went to high school, college and medical school in California. His three novels reflect Afghanistan’s struggles with foreign invasions and social, religious and cultural turmoil.
Hosseini’s Saratoga Springs appearance is sponsored by Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs Public Library, Skidmore Student Speakers Bureau and Friends of the Saratoga Springs Public Library.
