Falcons' end Kinkaid's win streak

Jonathan Marchessault scored twice Friday, helping the Springfield Falcons to a 5-3 AHL victory over the Albany Devils at the MassMutual Center.

The win gave the Falcons a two-point lead over the Devils for first place in the Northeast Division. The loss snapped Devils goalie and former Union College standout Keith Kinkaid’s six-game winning streak, which matched a franchise record.

Marchessault gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal 2:03 into the game. Dalton Smith made us 2-0 with 6:25 left in the first period.

The Falcons made it a three-goal lead when Ryan Craig scored 17 seconds into the second period. The Devils fought back to cut the lead to 3-2 by the end of the period on goals by Reid Boucher and ex-Dutchmen Kelly Zajac.

Marchessault gave Springfield a 4-2 advantage on the power play at 5:46 of the third period. Tim Sestito pulled Albany back to within one with 7:55 left, but Cody Bass’ empty-goal with 37 seconds remaining sealed the Falcons’ win.
