A 24-year-old Schenectady man was found dead Saturday in a wooded area of Niskayuna as the result of an apparent suicide.
Niskayuna police said Edward Bogdanowicz was reported missing Friday, two days after he was last seen at his home by family members. The family found his car Friday near the nature preserve at Erie Canal Lock 7, where he was known to take frequent walks.
Police kicked off a search in that area at 9 a.m. today and asked people to refrain from hiking any trails to make the search effort easier. Assisting with the search were state Department of Environmental Conservation forest rangers and members of the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office, state police, Schenectady County Emergency Management and Niskayuna Fire District 2.
Bogdanowicz’s body was turned over to the Schenectady County medical examiner. Police said there were no obvious signs of foul play, but an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death and an investigation remains open.
