Police: Gloversville woman produced shotgun after drug deal soured

A Gloversville woman is facing a felony weapons charge after causing a police standoff in a friend's apartment Tuesday.

Police gave the following account:

Tara Hoyt was a guest at her friend's 8 East Main St. second-floor apartment. At approximately 4 p.m. she stepped outside to make a possible drug deal with another woman in the alley alongside of the house.

When the deal went south, Hoyt allegedly threatened the other woman with the apartment resident's shotgun.

Gloversville Detective Sgt. Mike Jory couldn't comment on how the police were alerted to the situation, but said Hoyt was armed and locked in the upstairs apartment when they arrived -- refusing to come out.

"It was a short stand off," he said. "We didn't surround the place and break out the megaphone, but there were people in the apartment with her, so it got touchy."

He said the officers weren't sure whether Hoyt planned to harm her friend and two other apartment residents. Within a few minutes, the officers talked Hoyt into surrendering the shotgun and coming outside.

She was arrested, charged with felony criminal possession of weapon and second degree menacing and remanded to Fulton county jail.
