State police have charged a Saratoga Springs man with vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated, stemming from a head-on crash he allegedly caused on Route 146 in August.
Daniel C. Stack, 25, was charged with felony vehicular assault, as well as misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired by drugs and driving while ability impaired by the combined influence of drugs and alcohol. He was also cited for unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
Stack was driving his 2009 Honda Civic west about 12:15 p.m. Aug. 22 when he crossed over the double solid line and struck a 2007 Toyota Camry head-on, according to police. The collision caused serious injuries to Ertugrul Berkcan, 63, of Clifton Park, the driver of the Camry.
Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles by emergency responders and flown by helicopter to Albany Medical Center. Stack was later found to have a blood-alcohol content of 0.1 percent, investigators said.
Stack was released on tickets to appear in Clifton Park Town Court on Dec. 11.
