A 30-year-old Edinburgh man is facing harassment and criminal mischief charges after allegedly overturning a desk and breaking computers in Hadley Town Hall.

William Cason, of 12 Cason Road, reportedly got into an argument with the Hadley town code enforcer and building inspector Friday. According to the Saratoga Sheriff’s Office, he threatened the inspector over the phone, then drove to the Town Hall and turned his words into actions.

Witnesses report Cason overturned a desk, broke computers and ruined Christmas decorations — totaling $2,500 in damages. It is not yet clear what caused the argument.

On Saturday, sheriff’s deputies surrounded a house in the town of Greenfield where they believed Cason was hiding out.

After two hours, he emerged from the residence and surrendered peacefully.

He was arraigned in Hadley Town Court and sent to the Saratoga County Jail.
