A SUNY Cobleskill student was arrested this week on a misdemeanor menacing count after an argument in a residence hall.

Participants in the argument reported seeing the student with that they thought was a gun, but no gun was found, college spokeswoman Diane Dobry said. Jimmy Black, 18, of New York City, faces one count of second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor.

The incident happened late Tuesday night in Parsons Hall, a residence hall on campus. Black ultimately left and was found a short time later by university police.

Black was arraigned and ordered held on $2,000 bail.

In accordance with the college's zero-tolerance policy, he was also suspended from school, Dobry said.

The incident resulted in an email to students early Wednesday morning, an hour after Black was arrested.

In the email, the school's vice president of student affairs, Steven Ackerknecht, notified students of the arrest "involving an alleged weapon" and the student's suspension.

"At no time was there a perceived risk to the campus community," the notification read.

The note also urged anyone with information to contact campus police.
