NEW YORK — A Central Park carriage horse driver faces animal cruelty charges in New York City.
Police say driver Saverio Colarusso worked a horse with an injured leg for four days, even though it was having trouble pulling its carriage.
An officer stopped Colarusso in the park late Wednesday night after noticing that the horse appeared to be distressed.
The New York Times reports (http://nyti.ms/1i9Ud5u ) that Colarusso has been accused of wrongdoing before.
He was charged in 2010 with drinking on the job. Authorities have also fined him for driving his horse on the street during unauthorized hours.
Colarusso's lawyer didn't immediately return a phone message.
