Junior varsity call-up Neftali Lind scored 12 points, three other Schenectady players reached double

Junior varsity call-up Neftali Lind scored 12 points, three other Schenectady players reached

double digits and the Patriots moved over the .500 mark with a 77-51 Big 10 win over Albany Friday at the Pat Riley Sports Center.

The Patriots went on a 23-10 first-quarter run, and all but sealed their third victory in four games with a 19-8 third-quarter spurt.

Schenectady (4-3, 5-4) played without two of its lead frontcourt players, Keishaun Wheelings and Todd Spottswood, who were out of the area and unable to get to the game due to Thursday’s snow storm.

“We were missing some key guys,” said Schenectady coach Eric Loudis. “A lot of our younger guys stepped up.”

Lind was among them in his varsity debut, with the sophomore netting eight of his 12 points in the first half. Lind scored 40 points in a JV game at the Arthur Hilliard Memorial Tournament last week.

“I’m proud of him. He made things happen,” said Loudis. “He had some first-game varsity jitters and missed a couple layups, but overall, he played well.”

Schenectady’s Luke Chrisman, Towan Hamlin and Brandon Williams reached season highs with 14, 12 and 11 points, respectively, and Tobias Holmes had nine points and 10 rebounds.

“We’re hitting some jump shots,” said Loudis, whose team has scored over 70 points in each of its last three wins. “That’s huge for us. If we make shots and eliminate the kind of mistakes we were making early in the season, we can beat anyone on any given night. Good things can happen.”

In another Big 10 game, Kory Berge went 10-for-10 from the line as part of his 23-point performance, and Amsterdam overcame a first-quarter deficit to beat Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons, 75-52.

Ryan Dingman sparked a 23-7 second-quarter run with four of his six three-point hoops, and Broadalbin-Perth went on to beat Glens Falls, 60-48, in the Foothills Council.

Dylan Hensel scored 21 points on seven threes, and Noel Crawford also delivered 21 in Voorheesville’s 59-57 Colonial Council win over Mechanicville.

Mylah Chandler collected 10 points and 10 rebounds, and the Albany girls raced past Schenectady for a 63-21 Big 10 win.

Amsterdam got a combined 30 points from Kaitlyn Devine and Nina Fedullo in a 45-31 win over Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons.

Mechanicville beat Voorheesville in the Colonial Council, 45-34, behind Courtney Pingelski’s 14 points.

Lucy Tougas led a trio of double-digit Glens Falls scorers with 19 points in a 56-13 Foothills Council win over Broadalbin-Perth.

Nicole Barratiere scored 12 points and Alexandria Rychcik had 11 in Mekeel Christian’s 50-40 non-league loss to Albany Leadership. McKenna Lee Gordon paced Albany with 15.
