Mild temperatures and periods of heavy rain will quickly transition to arctic air and freezing precipitation today.

A cold front positioned just to the west of the region will drop temperatures into the upper 30s by early afternoon and into the upper 20s by late afternoon, according to National Weather Service Meteorologist John Quinlan.

Snow accumulation is predicted to be insignificant — perhaps a dusting to an inch — but whatever moisture is on the ground from today’s rainfall will likely freeze and make for slippery travel conditions, Quinlan said.

The cold temperatures are expected to stick around through midweek, along with the chance of scattered snow showers.
