COOPERSTOWN — Authorities say a 62-year-old man is being held in an upstate New York jail on charges stemming from a shooting inside a Cooperstown sports memorabilia store where he used to work.

Officials tell The Daily Star of Oneonta that 62-year-old Barry Renert is being held in Otsego County Jail on $500,000 cash bail after being charged with burglary.

Renert was returned last weekend from Richmond, Va., where police arrested him Dec. 23. Cooperstown police say a day earlier, he entered the he Seventh Inning Stretch store on Main Street wearing a ski mask and pulled a handgun on his former employer. The ex-boss produced his own handgun and fired a shot that missed.

Renert fled and was tracked down at the Richmond bus station later that night.

Renert's lawyer says he can't comment on the case yet.
