Scott Wedgewood made 21 saves for his first professional shutout Friday night as the Albany Devils topped the Northeast Division-leading Springfield Falcons, 3-0, at the MassMutual Center.

Wedgewood improved to 7-6-1 on the season with a 2.80 goals-against average and an .889 save percentage.

Albany (20-10-3-2) got on the board at 9:30 of the first period with Rod Pelley’s backhander on a rebound of Adam Larsson’s shot from the right point. It was Larsson’s first game action since Nov. 23 with New Jersey. He had been on injured reserve with a lower-body injury, but was activated this week and assigned to Albany.

Pelley also assisted on a third-period tally by Artem Demkov.

Joe Whitney scored his team-leading 13th goal of the season in the second period on a breakaway, fed by Scott Timmins.

Springfield (25-6-1-3) got 21 saves from Jeremy Smith.

Albany will host the Atlantic Division-leading Manchester Monarchs today at 5.
