A man accused of attempting a finger-point robbery of a city store pleaded not guilty to a new indictment this morning.

Leslie Hampton, 47, formerly of State Street, was arraigned in Schenectady County Court on one count of second-degree attempted robbery, a felony.

Hampton is accused of trying to rob the S&D Grocery on State Street last fall by tucking his finger in his jacket and telling the store owner he had a gun, according to papers filed previously in the case.

Hampton is accused of also telling the store owner he would be shot unless the owner handed over cash. The incident ended when the owner’s nephew pushed the store’s panic alarm, according to papers.

Hampton remains in custody.
