Temperatures dove well below zero overnight, with northern New York seeing some of the coldest temperatures in the country.

The mercury dipped to 6 below at the Albany Airport and 10 below in Glens Falls, according to National Weather Service Meteorologist Hugh Johnson. Farther north, Saranac shivered at 30 below and Watertown at minus 33.

The cold is here to stay for a while, Johnson said. A clipper system is expected to pass through the area Thursday, followed by another shot of cold air. A larger clipper system predicted for the weekend will usher in another surge of cold air by Sunday.

Johnson said the bone-chilling cold will likely stick around for at least the next 10 days.
