The Binghamton Senators responded to an early 1-0 deficit by rattling off five straight goals to beat the Albany Devils on Friday night, 5-2.

The East Division leaders got a pair of goals from Derek Grant, his fifth and sixth of the season.

Albany (23-12-3-3) struck first at 1:09 in the first period after Mattias Tedenby forced a turnover in the Binghamton zone and got the puck to Artem Demkov, who sent it to Stefan Matteau for his seven tally of the season.

Matt Puempel knotted it at 1-1 on a power-play score at 15:27, then Grant untied it at 1:25 of the second period with a shorthanded goal.

Corey Cowick and Shane Prince both scored before the period was out, and Grant added another score at 1:26 of the third.

Albany’s Scott Timmins netted his 10th goal of the season at 17:26, but it was too little, too late for the Devils.

Goalie Keith Kinkaid, a Union College product, made 35 saves on the 40 shots he faced.

Binghamton (26-12-0-3) got 27 saves from Andrew Hammond. Cowick also had an assist, and Chris Wideman handed out two helpers.

Albany will face Northway rival Adirondack today at 2 p.m. The first 1,500 fans will receive a Joe Whitney bobblehead.

The Times Union Center will then be taken over by the college ranks as Union and Rensselaer Polytechnic Insititute tangle for the Mayor’s Cup at 7:30.

The Devils will host Binghamton on Sunday at 3 p.m.
