Rider scored its last seven points at the free-throw line in the last 1:50 of play to hold off the Siena women in a 73-70 MAAC win at Alumni Gymnasium on Friday night.

Siena’s Emia Willingham had hit a pair of free throws with 2:05 left to play, tying the game, 64-64. Rider responded with a three-point play from Mikal Johnson with 1:50 left for a 67-64 lead. She was fouled by Kelsey Booth on a jumper that gave the Broncs their final points from the floor. That basket was assisted by Manon Pellet, her 10th of the night.

Booth’s layup nine seconds later pulled the Saints back within a point, but on the following possession, Rider’s MyNeshia McKenzie was fouled by Booth while grabbing a rebound, sending McKenzie to the line and Booth to the bench with her fifth personal foul.

McKenzie hit both shots, pushing her total for the game to 24 points. She also had nine rebounds to lead the Broncs (5-5 MAAC, 9-10 overall).

Willingham then dropped in a layup to bring Siena within a point at 69-68 with 1:01 left to play.

After a missed layup by Rider’s McKenzie, Allison Mullings had a chance to put Siena up a point, but missed, then fouled Pellet with 15 seconds left.

Pellett made both free throws for a 71-68 lead. With five seconds left, Siena’s Ciara Stewart’s layup brought the Saints back within a point at 71-70, and they were forced to foul. Pellet made two more from the stripe, setting up a desperation three-pointer by Ida Krogh that missed.

Siena (1-8 MAAC, 6-12 overall) was led by Booth’s 25 points and 12 rebounds. Krogh added 12 points, and Tehresa Coles had 10 points before fouling out.

Rider got 14 points from Johnson and 13 from Kornelija Valiuskyte. McKenzie was 12-for-14 from the line, Pellet was 6-for-6. The rest of the Broncs hit just 10 of 21 free throws.

The Saints will host Canisius on Sunday at 2 p.m.
