Another council vacancy, another appointment

Another council vacancy, another appointment

Last November, the city of Schenectady held a City Council election.

Last November, the city of Schenectady held a City Council election. Sixty days later, there is a vacancy on the council. The situation is deliberate and intentional. The Democrats wanted it that way and the departing council member went along.

Denise Brucker waited until the petition drive ended and then made her announcement not to complete her four-year term. In so doing, Ms. Brucker disenfranchised an entire community. The voters are left without a choice.

The Democratic Party has managed to give Schenectady taxpayers occupational diversity on the council. Diversity many be good. Disenfranchising voters is not.

Ms. Brucker’s service to the community was not a stellar one. Her departure was worse. Where is the League of Women Voters in all of this? Why doesn’t the organization take a stand? The situation has been going on for 10 years.
