Albany Symphony wins Grammy

Albany Symphony Orchestra won a Grammy Sunday night in the category Best Classical Instrumental Solo

Albany Symphony Orchestra won a Grammy Sunday night in the category Best Classical Instrumental Solo category.

The orchestra, under the direction of Maestro David Alan Miller, won for a recording of John Corigliano’s “Conjurer — Concerto for Percussionist & String Orchestra” with famed percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie.

“I was shocked and amazed and delighted," said Miller. "It’s just so exciting.”

Miller attended the Grammy's in Los Angeles to accept the award in person. During his speech he thanked John Corigliano for writing such great music, Evelyn Glennie for playing so beautifully and the Albany Symphony musicians who believe that "the best music of our time deserves its place in the center of our repertoire."

The recording was released on the NAXOS label along with another of Corigliano's works last fall.

ASO was the only regional orchestra nominated for a Grammy.
