John Henley has been appointed chief executive officer of Northern Rivers Family Services, parent company of Parsons Child and Family Center and Northeast Parent & Child Society, officials announced Thursday.
Henley, who has served as executive vice president of Northern Rivers since its formation in 2012, will succeed the retiring Raymond Schimmer. The transition will take place July 1.
“John Henley is uniquely qualified to lead Northern Rivers into the future,” Tom Amell, president and CEO of Pioneer Bank and chairman of the Northern Rivers board of directors, said in a news release. “In addition to his extraordinary compassion for and dedication to children, families and our community, he possesses the business acumen to lead an $80 million agency with 1,200 employees through a transformative period of growth and evolution.”
Henley joined Northeast as CEO in 2010 and assumed additional duties as Parsons CEO in 2012 under Northern Rivers. He previously served as executive director of Elmcrest Children’s Center in Syracuse and executive director of the Cayuga Home for Children in Auburn.
The Syracuse native is a graduate of Le Moyne College and earned his master’s in education from Syracuse University.
“I want us to create something to advance concepts and effect real, permanent change for children and families,” Henley said in the news release.
“Our evolution will occur in direct response to the needs of the community because answering those needs is the reason for our existence.”
