Authorities say two men are recovering from injuries suffered when a halon tank exploded while they

State police this morning named the two state employees injured in an accident Thursday night involving a tank of gas.

The men were injured at about 8 p.m. while attempting to load a halon tank into the back of a truck parked outside Building 12 at the Harriman State Office Campus when the stem fractured, causing the halon to escape.

Injured were Carlton Smith and Michael Lambertsen. Their ages and cities of residence were not available.

Both men suffered chemical burns to their legs. Smith also suffered a broken leg. Both were treated at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Albany fire officials say halon is an outdated extinguishing agent used in computer rooms. They say tank that exploded was obsolete and hadn't been used in years.

The cause of the explosion is being investigated.
