Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the 65-mile stretch of Interstate 84 in New York state has been closed to all traffic because of severe weather.
Cuomo announced Tuesday that I-84 between the Pennsylvania and Connecticut borders would be closed to tandem tractor-trailers starting at midnight. The ban was extended to all commercial and passenger vehicles around 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Cuomo says any cars on I-84 during the ban will be ticketed. State police are monitoring the highway to ensure that vehicles aren't on the highway while the ban is in effect.
Cuomo and other officials are advising people against traveling Wednesday unless it's absolutely necessary.
The storm has already dumped to up a foot of snow on parts of New York's Southern Tier. Forecasters say some upstate areas could get up to 16 inches.
