Sheriff’s deputies on Monday identified a man who was found dead in his still-running car in the village.

The man was Mark Trendell, 35, of Sloansville, according to Deputy Bruce Baker.

Circumstances surrounding Trendell’s death are unclear, but deputies do not think he was murdered, Baker said.

At about 7:30 p.m., Trendell spoke with an acquaintance on Orchard Street and asked if he could park in the acquaintance’s driveway overnight, Baker said.

“He was offered the opportunity to come inside. He decided he would rather stay in his vehicle,” Baker said.

According to phone records, he made a call at 9:30 p.m.. The next morning, the acquaintance came outside to check on him at 11:40 and found him dead.

“The vehicle was still running, so it wasn’t hypothermia,” Baker said. “He was deemed predeceased by some time.”

He added that there was “no glaringly obvious” reason for the death. An autopsy has been scheduled for this morning.

“We may have to wait for toxicology,” Baker added. “I’m hoping the autopsy will confirm some things and we won’t have to wait eight weeks for toxicology.”
