Assistant Fire Chief Raymond Senecal will be appointed to the top post in the fire department tonight.
Mayor Gary McCarthy said he would appoint Senecal at the start of the City Council meeting, along with several other fire department promotions.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
When Senecal was appointed assistant chief in December, city officials tacitly acknowledged that he would be the next fire chief.
“He is the guy,” Public Safety Commissioner Wayne Bennett said. “He is a non-nonsense, hands-on, well-disciplined officer. It’s a dangerous business they’re in, and we can have nothing short of that.”
McCarthy, who chose Senecal among several deputy fire chiefs, said he had a high “level of confidence” in him.
