Bears rally to beat Devils in shootout

Ryan Stoa and Casey Wellman scored in the shootout, and the Hershey Bears beat the Albany Devils, 3-2, at Boardwalk Hall on Friday night.

The Devils (25-16-3-5) twice took a one-goal lead, and twice, Hershey (27-16-3-3) tied it up.

Michael Latta scored the final goal of regulation at 9:23 in the third period to tie the game, 2-2. Matt Watkins also scored for Hershey with 11.6 seconds left in the first period.

Albany’s Reid Boucher scored his 12th goal of the season 8:12 into the game, assisted by Tim Sestito and Scott Timmins. Timmins later set up Stefan Matteau’s ninth of the season at 15:34 of the second period for a 2-1 lead. Mike Hoeffel also assisted on that tally.

Stoa and Wellman scored in the first two rounds of the shootout. Matteau gave Albany some hope with a tally in the fourth round, but Timmins came up empty on his fifth-round attempt.

Philipp Grubauer made 33 saves for the Bears. Albany’s Scott Wedgewood stopped 20 shots.
