Gunfire left one dead and two injured in two shootings in Albany during the pre-dawn hours Sunday morning.
Police spokesman Steve Smith said Jahmel Forbes, 30, of Albany, was shot to death on the 400 block of South Pearl Street near the intersection with Fourth Avenue. Police received a call about the shooting around 3:40 a.m.
Forbes was treated at the scene and taken to the Albany Medical Center Hospital, where he died. His death marked the city’s second homicide so far this year.
The fatal shooting was preceded by gunfire on Lexington Avenue near Elk Street, which injured a teenage girl from Scotia. Smith said officers responded around 2:15 a.m. when they heard the gunshots.
A 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were injured during the shooting. Smith said both were admitted to the Albany Medical Center Hospital, where they remain in stable condition.
Smith said the two shootings appear unrelated and both incidents remain under investigation.
