University at Albany Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Susan Phillips is stepping down, President Robert Jones announced in an email to faculty and staff Friday.
Jones said in the email he plans to launch a nationwide search for Phillips’ replacement in April, and the search committee will recommend finalists by September. The committee will work with a search consultant to build a pool of candidates, he said. He is also accepting confidential nominations from UAlbany faculty and staff.
Phillips will stay on until her replacement is named, which Jones said will be before Dec. 31.
Phillips has served in her leadership roles for six years. She was also a professor in the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology. In 1995 she was awarded the University at Albany Award for Excellence in Teaching and the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Last month Jones also announced a new chief of staff, Leanne Wirkkula, who previously served in several leadership positions at the University of Minnesota.
