Two Troy residents stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from the JC Penney store in Crossgates Mall, police said.
Melissa Russell, 23, and Scott T. Cleland, 26, both were charged with third-degree grand larceny and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
Guilderland Police first caught up with them Sunday after officers found they tried to take jewelry from the Macy’s department store in the mall.
As police looked into the matter further, they discovered the pair had allegedly succeeded in taking jewelry from the JC Penney store. The jewelry taken was valued at $12,292, police said.
Police then determined the two took an iPad Air and a phone case from the Sprint store.
Cleland also faces one count of fourth-degree attempted grand larceny.
Russell was found with five Oxycodone pills and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
