Assemblyman Jim Tedisco, R-Glenville, will introduce a resolution calling on New York’s congressional delegation to push for Russia to withdraw from Ukraine.
Tedisco is urging U.S. Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand along with U.S. Reps. Paul Tonko, Chris Gibson and Bill Owens to “condemn” Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and remove all troops from the area.
“I know something about standing up to bullies and what we have in Vladimir Putin is a bully who wants to forge a new Russian Empire,” Tedisco said in a news release Monday. “By not taking a strong stand against Mr. Putin’s bullying tactics to repress democracy and invade a sovereign nation, we’re only emboldening his aggression.”
Tedisco is calling for his colleagues in the state Assembly to support the resolution.
“My colleagues in Albany and in Washington need to send a clear message that the United States opposes the invasion of any sovereign state and flaunting of international law,” he said.
