State police have arrested a Broadalbin woman on a vehicular manslaughter charge more than four months after a predawn accident that killed a passenger in the vehicle she was driving.
Melissa Vincent, 39, was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter following a lengthy investigation, state police said Monday. She was arraigned in Fulton County Court and released pending her next court date.
Investigators determined Vincent was at fault in a crash that occurred on County Highway 155 in Mayfield at 2 a.m. Oct. 27.
Vincent is accused of being the driver of a 2009 Mercedes that was traveling west on Route 155 when it failed to negotiate at curve. State police investigators said the vehicle struck a sign post, sheared off a power pole and plowed into an earth embankment, ejecting Vincent and her passenger, 34-year-old Justin DePaula.
DePaula was pronounced dead at the scene. Vincent was airlifted to the Albany Medical Center hospital, where she was treated for multiple injuries.
