Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday the launch of a website for college students to receive advice, tips and information about financing their education.
The website, www.dfs.ny.gov/studentprotection, is part of the Department of Financial Services. It provides a resource center for students, parents and college graduates on paying loans.
The Student Lending Resource Center includes information about different types of financial aid along with loan payment options, available tax credits and deductions, and tips on how to avoid fees.
The website will be updated with additional information about student-related financial services including health insurance and other products, according to the governor’s office.
Students in New York face an average debt of more than $27,000, which is the third highest in the nation, according to the Federal Reserve. Total debt nationwide is $1 trillion.
