Five Glenville families returned to their homes Friday evening after being evacuated earlier in the day when town workers dug through a gas line.

According to Glenville Town Supervisor Chris Koetzle, highway department staff responded early Friday afternoon to a water main break on Velina Drive, off High Mills Road near Burnt Hills. They had a National Grid contractor mark out where all the gas lines were. Koetzle said one line was lost in the shuffle, which resulted in a gas leak.

Five households were evacuated in response to the leak, which occurred sometime between 1 and 2 p.m., according to Koetzle. National Grid crews arrived and capped off the leak, returning utilities to the homes by around 5:30.

Friday evening, Koetzle said, everyone was back in their homes with working gas and water.
