A former substitute teacher will have to register as a sex offender but has avoided jail under a sentence handed down in Saratoga County Court on Thursday.
Christopher Yanulavich, 25, of Fayetteville, near Syracuse, was sentenced by Judge Jerry Scarano to 10 years probation and was required to register as a sex offender.
He pleaded guilty in January to having sexual contact with a 16-year-old boy last April in Stillwater.
Yanulavich was working as a long-term substitute teacher in an elementary school in the Oneida City School District at the time of his arrest last September. He was fired the next day, according to the school district.
