Saratoga Springs Republican chair steps down to run for DA

Saratoga Springs Republican chair steps down to run for DA

Local attorney David Harper has stepped down as chairman of the Saratoga Springs Republican Committe

Local attorney David Harper has stepped down as chairman of the Saratoga Springs Republican Committee to concentrate on a run for Saratoga County district attorney.

Harper, a former assistant district attorney, is one of several current or former prosecutors weighing a run for the county’s top prosecutor, as current District Attorney James A. Murphy III makes a run for County Court judge. Murphy currently has no opposition in an election that will take place this November; he has not said whether he will resign as district attorney before the election.

Harper joined the Republican Committee in 2010 and was elected chairman in 2012.

“I wanted to give the committee time to select a new chairman before this year’s elections, as I focus my efforts on running for district attorney” he said in a statement.

Vice-chairman Steve Rodriguez will serve as interim committee chairman until a new party leader is selected.
