A Saratoga Springs man made more than $23,000 by instructing others to file false tax returns, Warren County Sheriff’s officials said.

George H. Garlock IV, 51, of 58 Lincoln Ave., Apt. 1, faces three counts of fourth-degree criminal tax fraud, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and two counts of third-degree grand larceny.

He is accused employing three women at his theater-cleaning business, Kleen Tex, and then instructing them to file false tax returns with false documents for 2009 and 2010. He then split the tax refunds with the women, authorities said, netting himself more than $23,000.

The investigation began with the Warren County Department of Social Services. All three women were on public assistance.

Garlock was arraigned and ordered held on $10,000 bail.
